LEAVE POLICIES IN CHANGING TIMES: NEW PATTERNS OF WORK AND CARE AND GENDER AND SOCIAL EQUALITY

The 20th Seminar of the International Network on Leave Policies and Research will take place for the first time in Greece on the 29-30 of June 2023. It is organized by the Centre for Gender Studies of Panteion University, in collaboration with the coordinating committee of the International Network.

Patterns of paid work, employment, societal care needs and care cultures are changing rapidly across the world. How are leave policies responding to these changes? What are the impacts of these changes on leave policies (including parenting leave policies) and on gender and social equality? The Athens Seminar will discuss these issues and particularly focus on three thematic pillars:

A. LEAVE POLICIES, GENDER AND SOCIAL EQUALITY IN THE CONTEXT OF CHANGING WORK FORMS AND PATTERNS:

What are the impacts of new forms and patterns of work (e.g., teleworking, platform, mobile, remote, and/or flexible working-time arrangements) and work cultures (e.g., long-hours, work-intensive contexts) on leave policies and on gender equality and social equality? Under these new circumstances, what kind of leave policies best respond to the needs of caregivers and care receivers and promote gender and social equality?

B. LEAVE SYSTEMS, CARE CULTURES, GENDER EQUALITY, AND SOCIAL INCLUSION:

How is care work undertaken in this historical moment and in different societies? Can parenting leave policies influence caring patterns, foster gender equality in caring and promote more socially inclusive caring societies?

C. LEAVE POLICY, AGEING SOCIETIES AND ADULT/ELDERLY CARE:

Caring needs of adults, and particularly the elderly in ageing societies, have spurred debates/proposals for a “caring economy”. What is – or could be – the contribution of leave policies to elderly/adult care?

Taking into account the thematic pillars of the Seminar, please send the title of your presentation, name(s) of presenter(s) and a short description (max 120 words) by 28 February 2023 to INLPR2023@gmail.com. Notifications of proposal approvals will be sent by March 20, 2023.
