SIGN UP FOR PROGENDER’S 1st ONLINE SEMINAR INVITATION 1ST ONLINE SEMINAR SEPTEMBER 29- OCTOBER 1, 2021

The Centre for Gender Studies of Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences invites you to the 1st online seminar of the ProGender project “Gender, Care and Labour during the Pandemic”, on September 29, 30 and October 1, 2021, at 17:00- 19:00 CET (15:00 Iceland/ 17:00 Norway/ 18:00 Greece).
The three-day online seminar will focus on the impact of the pandemic on gender, care and labour. More specifically it will address rising inequalities between men and women in the labour market and how they are intertwined with gendered patterns of care and labour, including considerations of the intersectional dynamics of migration, race, age, sexuality, and disability during the pandemic. Participants will have a chance to learn about the current debates on gender and COVID-19, get an overview of the relevant literature, policies and activism, and critically discuss their views and experiences of the pandemic and the lock downs.

The seminar will explore the following questions:

a)      How the pandemic impacted on the gendered division of labour as restrictions of movement of professional and family carers, the closures of schools, kindergartens and day care centres increased the unpaid workload within households.
b)      How the pandemic exasperated the “crisis of care” that was already underway because of budget and personnel cuts in the national healthcare system brought forward by austerity policies and the rising privatisation and precarisation of labour in healthcare.

c)      What are the communal responses, activist demands and policies that have emerged to address issues related to gender, care and labour during COVID-19.

The seminar will be conducted by Nelli Kambouri, Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Gender Studies, Panteion University.
It will take place online via the Zoom platform. Places are limited in order to ensure the smooth and effective conduct of the seminar.
Deadline for applications: Monday 20th of September 2021. The seminar is free of charge.
