The Centre is directed by Maria Karamessini, Professor of Labour Economics and Economics of the Welfare State

The Centre’s human resources consist of scientific coordinators and researchers on the projects that the Centre implements.

Maria Karamessini

Professor of Labour Economics and Economics of the Welfare State, teaching at the Social Policy Department of Panteion University. Between 2010 and 2015 she was the Director of the Centre for Gender Studies, while from 2015 to 2019 the President and Governor of the Greek Public Employment Agency (OAED).

In the years 1997-2014 she has participated in all official expert groups of the European Commission on gender and employment. In this capacity, she has analyzed gender inequalities in the Greek labour market and Greek employment and social policy from a gender equality perspective. Between 2008 and 2014 she has been systematically evaluating the whole gender equality policy in Greece as independent expert. As a consultant of the European Commission, she has also participated in the drafting of the first report on Gender Mainstreaming in European Employment Policy and the development of the first set of Indicators on Gender Equality to monitor the European Employment Strategy.

She is currently the Head of the Gender Equality Committee of Panteion University.
