This edited volume is the outcome of original scientific work presented by the authors in two international symposia on ‘Women, Gender Equality and Economic Crisis’.

The first symposium was held in Athens on the 1st and 2nd December 2011 and was organized by the Centre for Gender Studies of the Social Policy Department of Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences,
which is directed by Maria Karamessini and the second in Reykjavik on the 21st and 22nd April 2012.
